Director General of the National Library participated the pre-conference Rio +20 forum, organized by The United Nations Global Compact in Rio de Janeiro

Director General of the National Library and expert of European Science Foundation for knowledge economy Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas participated the pre-conference Rio +20 forum, organized by The United Nations Global Compact in Rio de Janeiro on 15-18 June 2012.

The forum was attended by the most famous representatives of civil society groups, private sector, academic community; they discussed and participated in drafting the recommendations of operational program of sustainable development. These recommendations will be submitted for approval at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government in conference Rio +20. A Publication “A New Paradigm of Sustainability: Theory and Praxis of Integrated Landscape Management” (Rio de Janeiro, 2012), was presented for Forum participants; an article of Director General of the National Library Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas “Globalization and the Role of Communication in Building a New World Equilibrium” is published in it. Importance of development of information technology, information dissemination and communication sustainable economic, political and social development was discussed in the article. Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas also met the President of the National Library of Brazil Galeno Amorim and international programs director Monica Rizzo and discussed future cooperation opportunities.

At the Rio+20 Conference, world leaders, along with thousands of participants from governments, the private sector, NGOs and other groups, will come together to shape how we can reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection on an ever more crowded planet to get to the future we want. The Rio+20 Conference is envisaged as a Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State and Government or other representatives. The conference is attended by president of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė as well. The Conference will take place in Brazil on 20-22 June 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de Janeiro. The Conference will focus on two themes: (a) a green economy in the context of sustainable development poverty eradication; and (b) the institutional framework for sustainable development.
