2012-09-05
33dn congress of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) took place in London on August 23-26. Representatives from more than 70 countries participated in meeting, organized every two years. Lithuania was represented by five delegates; employees from Children’s Literature Centre of the National Library and IBBY Lithuanian division members Roma Kišūnaitė and Doc. Kęstutis Urba were among them.
London – a city of many cultures – provided the early inspiration for the theme of this congress - Crossing Boundaries: Translations and Migrations. Translations of books as cultural exchange, issues on how children and teenagers books “overgrow” national spaces, extend boundaries, migrate between different nations and cultures as well as benefit of translated literary reading were discussed in plenary and parallel sessions, professional groups, workshops.
Reports were delivered by world-famous children's literature specialists: Aidan Chambers, Bart Moeyart, Emer O’Sullivan, Shaun Tan and others. Doc. K. Urba delivered presentation “Lithuanisation of proper names of Beatrix Potter tales”.
H. Ch. Andersen Medal this year was given to Argentine writer Maria Teresa Andruetto and Czech painter Peter Sisu.
