The Global Librarians: International Young Librarians Academy in Latvia

The Global Librarians: International Young Librarians Academy took place in Latvia (Venspils) on August 27-30. The project was organized by International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) and representatives of project in Ukraine “Bibliomist”, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Members from 10 countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Colombia, Vietnam and Botswana) were invited to improve professional skills.
Lithuania was represented by 9 young specialists from various country libraries, including representative of the National Library (senior bibliographer of Lituanica department) Viktorija Kirijakaitė.
The main objectives of the Academy were to create an international network of young professionals, to share experiences and ideas, improve professional knowledge of modern librarianship and apply them to counties’ libraries.
An international network of young professionals discussed about future projects and opportunities for cooperation during the Academy. Participants were committed to spread knowledge gained during the Academy to colleagues in their countries and implement proposed initiatives and projects.
