Exhibition “Respect for Italy” of books, stored in collection of the National Library, was opened in the Italian Cultural Institute in Vilnius on October 16.

The event was attended by Italian extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador in Lithuania Renato Maria Ricci, head of the Italian Cultural Institute in Vilnius and Italian culture attaché Davide Scalman, director general of the National Library of Lithuania Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas, minister of foreign affairs of Republic of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis, art historian and author of two books on Lozoraitis family Dr. dr. Giedrė Jankevičiūtė.

144 boxes (containing about 6,000 books) replenished the Lozoraitis Collection in holdings of Lituanica Department of the National Library. The collection was donated to the National Library by ambassador Kazys Lozoraitis in 2007. Part of newly received collection includes publications from politics, history, law studies to works of Classics of World Literature (in Italian, French, German, English), art albums, and creation of Lithuanian emigrants.

More than 2 thousand books-set in Italian is distinguished in this huge collection. The collection includes rare and valuable publications on ancient times, reminding Italian history, its cities, impressive art collections and its’ artists, historical figures as well as fiction works of Italian writers.

The exhibition will be on display in Italian Cultural Institute until Oct. 22.
