The Global Librarians: International Young Librarians Academy took place in Latvia (Venspils) on August 27-30. The project was organized by International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) and representatives of project in Ukraine “Bibliomist”, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Members from 10 countries (Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Colombia, Vietnam and Botswana) were invited to improve professional skills.

IBBY congress in London

33dn congress of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) took place in London on August 23-26. Representatives from more than 70 countries participated in meeting, organized every two years. Lithuania was represented by five delegates; employees from Children’s Literature Centre of the National Library and IBBY Lithuanian division members Roma Kišūnaitė and Doc. Kęstutis Urba were among them.

This virtual exhibition presents brief biography (which is supplemented by a couple of archival photographs from collections of Rare Book and Manuscript Department of the National Library) of one our most famous painters, book illustrators, writers Kazys Šimonis; key-features of his creation are discussed. The exhibition also includes reproduction of artist works, his illustrated and authorized books, pamphlets, catalogs of exhibitions. Some extracts from K. Šimonis memoir book “Fragments of Life” with authors’ corrections and remarks are given as well.
