Iliustration 20 July 2022

Invitation to present papers at the annual conference of the Statehood Center of the Lithuanian National Library “The Development of Lithuania After 1990: Vision, Facts and Memories”

“Our common task is to restore our society and state and continue building them. However, only free people in a free land reveal the powers of that creation. Therefore, we must come to our free land and defend our own and children's lives. We are already coming. There are many of us. So life is changing quickly, and we are now standing on the threshold of a historical turning point.” (Vytautas Landsbergis, March 12, 1990)

In 2017, the donation of a collection of publications and documents by Vytautas Landsbergis, the chairman of the Supreme Council of Lithuania and the first leader of the restored independent State of Lithuania, gave rise to one branch of the National Library of Lithuania – the Center for Statehood, which goals are to promote the public's need to learn about the historical development of the country's statehood and the creation of a modern state, contribute to the consolidation of democratic values, and creation of civil society.

The close connection of the Statehood Center with Vytautas Landsbergis, who is celebrating his 90th anniversary this year, encouraged us to invite researchers from various fields to an international scientific conference, which would reflect on the recent period of Lithuanian history from 1987 to the present.
