On April 15 at 6 p.m., we invite you to the opening of Daiva Ložytė’s ceramics exhibition “Dead Words” at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. The ceramic works conceptually explore the theme of human existence—the artworks contain “dead”, ancient Lithuanian words that preserve the nation’s historical and cultural experience.
On April 17 at 5:30 p.m., we invite you to the opening of an exhibition by contemporary Polish artist Katarzyna Karpowicz at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. The exhibition is being organized to mark the anniversary year of the Polish Institute in Vilnius and will serve as a highlight of its 30th-anniversary celebrations, as well as the 115th anniversary of Czesław Miłosz’s birth.
From 14 April to 3 May, the National Library’s Statehood Centre will host an exhibition featuring three items commemorating the Lithuanian soldier Normundas Valteris (1972–1996).

Aušrinė Žilinskienė, Director General of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, organised a meeting of the heads of the national libraries of the three Baltic States. The directors of the Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian libraries agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership, emphasizing the importance of neighbourliness in addressing geopolitical challenges, protecting cultural heritage, as well as the need for regional representation in European institutions.

On February 23, the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania will open its doors to the international illustrators’ exhibition “Magical Forest”.The exhibition is organized by the National Library’s Children’s and Youths Literature Centre in collaboration with the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre and the Estonian Graphic Designers Association.
A friend in need is a friend indeed. As they took their first steps toward freedom, Lithuania and the other Baltic states received comprehensive support from democratic countries.
There are sea peoples and forest peoples, there are desert peoples. Estonians are a people of both sea and forest – we find the woods to be intimate and dear. We ourselves aren’t always able to appreciate the treasure that surrounds us. Even nations with few remaining wooded areas still feel their attraction. The forest simultaneously intimidates and draws one in.
