The Heads of the National Library of China Visits Our Library for the First Time

On the 17th of August, Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas, Director General of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, met with the delegation of the National Library of China headed by the Deputy Director Sun Yigang. The meeting provided an occasion to discuss the initiatives and fields of cooperation between both institutions. The participants also exchanged symbolic gifts.

The guests were provided with an overview of the National Library’s activities in preserving the country’s documentary cultural heritage and in ensuring its dissemination. The participants discussed the role of the institutions in developing information policy and in the field of library cooperation. They also agreed to cooperate in initiating discussions and information exchange relevant to both institutions, in particular with regard to the integration of technology into service creation and restoration and preservation of valuable collections.

The National Library of China is the main cultural institution of this country involved in the preservation of historical and cultural heritage and in awareness-raising activities encouraging people to explore, foster and share this heritage using modern information technology. This library houses over 36 million items, including highly valuable Chinese literature and art collections.
