The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania traces its history back to 1919. What was the National Library called at first? In which city did the library operate during the interwar period? In what year did the National Library begin operating in its current building? What is the oldest book in Lithuanian kept at the National Library? You will find the answers to these and other questions during a tour of the National Library. Come and explore the library's spaces and unique exhibits, and learn about the services provided to library visitors with a guide.
Tours are organized on weekdays from 9:00 to 16:00, on Fridays – until 15:00. They are conducted in Lithuanian, English, and Russian (by prior arrangement). This service is free of charge and lasts about 1 hour.
Tours are conducted for both individual and organized groups of adults (from 5 to 20 people) and senior schoolchildren (grades 9-12). We invite you to register for them by e-mail
For tours for children and younger groups (grades 1-8), please contact us by e-mail
Don‘t have a group, can’t come on weekdays, but want to participate in the tour? Once every three months, we offer a weekend tour for individual visitors, for which we invite you to register online. Follow the news on the LNB website and the library‘s Facebook page and register when the information is published.
We invite you to visit the library virtually: you can get acquainted with the library and take a closer look at them using the standard virtual tour of the library spaces. Spaces inaccessible to library visitors are presented in another virtual tour – Invisible Library.
Upon arrival at the National Library, we kindly invite you to leave your outerwear in the self-service lockers (locks are activated by 1 euro coins. There are money exchange machines). A guide will be waiting for you in the library lobby at the agreed time.
The administration reserves the right to cancel the scheduled tour due to events taking place at the National Library. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you!
