Is your library open for public during the quarantine period?

The services of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania are currently only available via remote access.

What should I do if I have received an email reminder to return library materials but the library is closed due to the current situation in the country? Can I return library materials during the quarantine period?

There is a designated return box available around the clock at the main entrance to the library’s building for returning library materials you have read. If you cannot leave your home, you will be able to return your library materials once the quarantine period is over.

I cannot renew my checked-out items. Will the library charge late return fines during the quarantine period?

The library will not charge late return fines during the quarantine period. You will be able to return your library materials once the quarantine period is over.

Can I read ebooks offered by your library if I am not a library user?

Ebooks can be borrowed or accessed by anyone who holds a LIBIS reader’s card or those who verify their identity through e-Government Gateway.

What steps should I take to start reading ebooks?

To start reading an ebook, you should take the following steps:

  • If you are a LIBIS library user who holds a reader’s card and who has been re-registered this year, you should log in at ibiblioteka.lt by entering your reader’s card number and your password (the password is your surname, using letters of the Lithuanian alphabet, if you have not changed it). Those who do not have a LIBIS reader’s card should register and verify their identity via e-Government Gateway;
  • Perform searches;
  • Select an ebook;
  • Check out (click the “Check out” button (you can read 2 ebooks at a time; you will not be able to check out an ebook if another user uses it and no free licenses are available).

Can I download ebooks and use it on my e-reader?

You can read ebooks on the devices that have internet access but you cannot download them.

I have tried everything (obtained a reader’s card or registered and verified my identity through e-Government Gateway) but was unable to check out ebooks from the library. What do I do?
