In the year 2022, the Education Lab is named Laimė Lukošiūnienė Hall. Laimė Gabrielė Lukošiūnienė (1934-2021) worked at the National Library for almost four decades. On her initiative, the National Library started to organise exhibitions of works of art, national and international exhibitions. L. Lukošiūnienė organised their ceremonial openings, made sure that the artworks were placed in the traditional space of the library, thus developing the readers' aesthetic perception.

In the late Soviet era, the library's Art Department was famous as a place where, thanks to the efforts of L. Lukošiūnienė, high quality art was presented, but it did not quite fit into the canons of the Soviet official fine arts. Thanks to L. Lukošiūnienė, the National Library hosted the first exhibitions of today's most famous Lithuanian artists who have received international recognition. Šarūnas Sauka, Algis Skačkauskas, Vaidotas Žukas, Dalia Kasčiūnaitė, Vincas Kisarauskas, Leonardas Gutauskas, Živilė Jasutytė, Ričardas Bartkevičius, Dalia Matulaitė, Vladas Vitkauskas, Jurga Ivanauskaitė, Paulius Normantas - these are just a few of the famous artists who have graced the Library's spaces with their work.

"At that time, we did not have stands suitable for exhibitions, hanging equipment, or even suitable ropes, paper, glass, workers to hang the paintings, or transport for the exhibits. All we had was enthusiasm, empty walls and a five-metre-high ladder that could only be moved by two strong men", - L. Lukošiūnienė recalled.

Lithuanian National Television has produced a programme "Legendos" about L. Lukošiūnienė, which you can see here.

In the Education Lab - Laimė Lukošiūnienė Hall, we are open to people of different backgrounds, experiences and ages who want to take part in activities promoting creativity and self-expression, as well as to the visitors of the National Library, who would like to get acquainted with the heritage of the library.
