What makes a book sharp and witty? How did early modern print culture shape the way we read, think, and communicate? These are the questions to be explored at the international conference Acutus et Argutus: Early Modern Print Culture in Motion, organized by the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania and the National Museum of Lithuania, taking place on 8–10 October 2025.
The conference will bring together scholars from different countries to discuss the development of early modern book culture, the relationship between text and image, and the processes of publishing, reading, and circulation. Special attention will be given to the Baroque era and its intellectual and visual legacy.
The first two days (8–9 October) the conference will take place at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (Gedimino Avenue 51, Vilnius, Conference Hall, 5th floor), and on the third day (10 October) at the Old Arsenal of the National Museum of Lithuania (Arsenalo Street 3, Events Hall, 2nd floor).
Admission is free, no pre-registration is required. The language of the conference is English.
