Screening of the documentary film “Mr. Nobody Against Putin”

On October 1 at 4:15 p.m., the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania invites you to a screening of the documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin.

Directed by David Borenstein and Pavel Talankin, the film follows Pavel “Pasha” Talankin, who works at a school in a small Russian town. Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, everyday life at his school begins to change rapidly: “patriotic education” activities are introduced, while war propaganda and militarization become increasingly prominent. Working as the school’s videographer, Pasha is tasked with documenting these activities, while at the same time secretly collecting footage that reveals how state ideology is transforming the lives of teachers and students. The footage he recorded became the basis for the documentary.

Mr. Nobody Against Putin has strong ties to Denmark, while also being an international co-production. The film was co-directed by Pavel Talankin and Copenhagen-based American filmmaker David Borenstein, with Helle Faber of the Danish production company Made in Copenhagen serving as its lead producer. The film was co-produced by the Czech production company PINK and made with the support of the Danish Film Institute and the Czech Audiovisual Fund. Denmark selected the film as its official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 2026 Academy Awards.

Since its world premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, the film has received numerous international awards and accolades. At Sundance, it received the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award, and in 2026 it won the BAFTA Award for Best Documentary. Its most significant international recognition came with the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film.
