The International illustration exhibition „The Suitcase of Stories“ has been specially created for children aged 5–12. Its title was inspired by illustrations by Latvian artist Anete Melece, in which a suitcase embarks on all kinds of adventures.
At the exhibition, children and accompanying adults will discover illustrations and the stories they tell, created by 28 illustrators living in eight countries: Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Most of the illustrations featured in the exhibition come from books recently published in these countries.
The central idea of the exhibition is that stories can be told not only through words, but also through images – they can be not only narrated, but also visualised. Everyone can then tell the story conveyed through images in their own words.
The exhibition's specially designed architecture and audio guide will offer an interactive way to experience the illustrations and the stories they tell.
The exhibition opening will take place in the 5th-floor atrium of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania on 12 November at 6:00 PM.
The opening will be attended by exhibition curator Ulla Saar and illustrators from Denmark and Lithuania.
The exhibition opening events will be accompanied by educational workshops led by the illustrators and educators from the Children's and Youth Literature Centre.
Admission to the exhibition and educational activities is free of charge.
Visitors will be able to view the exhibition in the 5th-century atrium of the National Library until 14 March 2027.
