The Discussion “80 Years Later: The Holocaust, Antisemitism and Memory for the Future”

The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania and the Association of Jews from Vilna and vicinity in Israel invite you to the discussion “80 Years Later: The Holocaust, Antisemitism and Memory for the Future”. The discussion is dedicated to the 80th year of the liquidation of the Vilna ghetto. Discussion participants: Dr. Christopher Dieckman, historian and researcher of the Holocaust in Lithuania; Saulius Beržinis, documentary film maker, founder and director of the Independent Lithuanian Holocaust Archive; Dr. Darius Staliūnas and Dr. Tomas Balkelis, senior researchers at the Lithuanian Institute of History.

The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Dina Porat, Professor Emeritus of the University of Tel Aviv and senior historian of the “Yad Vashem” Memorial Holocaust Centre.

The opening speeches will be held by Prof. Dr. Renaldas Gudauskas, the Director General of the National Library, H. E. Hadas Wittenber Silverstein, Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania, and Mickey Kantor, Chairperson of the the Association of Jews from Vilna and vicinity in Israel “Beit Vilna”.

The Q&A session will be opened by Prof. Jurgita Verbickienė.

The concluding remarks will be delivered by Ronaldas Račinskas, Head of the Secretariat of the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes Committed by the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes in Lithuania, the Commission’s Coordinator of Educational Programmes, Ingrida Vilkienė, and the Chairperson of the Lithuanian Jewish (Litvak) Community, Faina Kukliansky.

The event host – Dr. Lara Lempertienė, Head of the Judaica Research Centre at the National Library.

The event will be held in English and will take place on 20 September at 5 pm at the Conference Hall (5th floor).
