Dear visitors, please be reminded that the National Library is closed during public holidays so it will not be open to the public on the 9th and 10th of April, i. e. on the first and second day of Easter. 

The Library’s opening hours are one hour shorter on a day before a public holiday thus our Library will be open until 5:00 pm on the 8th of April.

Lithuania will soon celebrate the 19th anniversary of its membership of NATO and the European Union, and the 20th anniversary in 2024. The first NATO Summit will be held in Vilnius on July 11 and 16. Joining NATO is one of the most important events in the history of Lithuania, as is evident by Russia’s war in Ukraine. These historic events will be commemorated not only by top-level political events, but also by exclusive events, exhibitions and creative and cultural industry projects.

 On 4 April at 6pm, we invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Vilnius ORT Technicum – A Window to the Future” at the 5^th floor atrium of the National Library of Lithuania. In this exhibition dedicated to the 700th anniversary of Vilnius, you will get a closer look at another aspect of life in interwar Vilnius – the Jewish Higher Technical School.

The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania has digitized and made available online 75 out of 91 currently known incunabula housed at the National Library. The publications can be found in  a digital freely accessible collection of the first printed books on ePaveldas.lt. It is in the Public Domain.

The National Library of Lithuania invites you to the exhibition “Metaphysics of the frame”, which presents a retrospective of the early work of the Lithuanian cinematographer Audrius Kemežys (1973-2018).

CAPITAL. TRANSFORMATIONS: Vilnius in the 19th-21st Centuries,” which will take place on October 19-20, 2023 at the National Library of Lithuania, Vilnius.

The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania kindly invites you to the international conference “Printing Centers and Peripheries in the Early Modern Period,” which will be held on October 5-6, 2023 at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania in Vilnius in a hybrid format with both in-person and virtual participation.

The exhibition The City Passes Through Time at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania present two projects by two well-known Lithuanian contemporary artists, Mindaugas Navakas (b. 1952) and Arūnas Gudaitis (b. 1973) – the former’s Vilnius Notebook No. 1 (1981–1985), and the latter’s Vilnius Postcards (2009).

The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania is pleased to present a new publication—an open-access collection of articles in English "Theatrum libri: Book Printing, Reading and Dissemination in Early Modern Europe" (Vilnius, 2022), compiled by the researchers of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Unit of the Documentary Heritage Research Department of the National Library of Lithuania, Dr. Milda Kvizikevičiūtė and Dr. Viktorija Vaitkevičiūtė.

2022 has demanded our focus and courage. The year was marked by Russia's unprovoked war against Ukraine. In the face of aggression, Lithuania maintained its respect for democratic principles and humanity. We have reaffirmed our unity and belief in the fundamental values of freedom.

Dear visitors, the National Library is closed on public holidays. On the last working day before the public holiday, namely on the 23^rd and 31^st of December, the library will close one hour earlier. 

On December 7, 2022, the Commission for the Cause of Freedom and the National History Memory of the Lithuanian Parliament (Lith. Laisvės kovų ir valstybės istorinės atminties komisija) held a discussion on the history policy-making in Lithuania at the Seimas.

On 28–29 November, the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania (NLL) organised a training programme devoted to the historical Jewish press in Lithuania-. Reports were delivered and workshops conducted by the professor at the University of Portsmouth, UK, Susanne Marten-Finnis and the manager of the historical Jewish press project ‘JPress’ implemented by the National Library of Israel. The collection of the historical Jewish press preserved at NLL was introduced by the Head of this Library’s Judaica Research Centre Dr Larisa Lempertienė. The seminars were organised by the National Library of Israel together with NLL.

On the 7–8^th of December The Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania invites you to participate in the Early Reading Forum. It is a yearly event by the National library that aims to promote a professional and credible message on the benefits of early reading. The event is meant for parents, future parents and experts working with the reading education of toddlers – librarians, experts in formal and non-formal education.
